Havlunsj: Green shipping with hydrogen and ammonia
October 17 @ 11:30 am–12:30 pm
The Norwegian maritime industry is a world leader in developing zero-emission solutions for ships using hydrogen and ammonia as fuel. You can learn more about this at this month’s HAVlunsj, organized by Maritime CleanTech!
The world’s first hydrogen vessel, the car ferry MF “Hydra,” began operating in the Ryfylke Fjord in April 2023. In the same year, Wärtsilä launched the world’s first ammonia engine for ships after successful full-scale testing in Stord. Several projects are underway to adopt ammonia and hydrogen-based fuels in various types of ships in the coming years.
The Apollo Project has received 5 million euros from the EU to realize the world’s first ammonia-powered offshore vessel in the North Sea. Wärtsilä’s ammonia engine and fuel system will be installed on the “Viking Energy.” This summer, Enova also awarded a total of NOK 1.2 billion to 15 hydrogen and ammonia vessels across various segments, including a process vessel for the aquaculture industry that will run on hydrogen.
At this month’s HAVlunsj, we will be presented with several of these pioneering projects. Welcome!
Program (the event will be held in Norwegian):
