Apollo makes waves at European Hydrogen Week

November 26, 2024

Apollo made a strong impression at European Hydrogen Week in Brussels, as its plan to accelerate the use of ammonia in shipping garnered significant attention.

Organized by Hydrogen Europe, the European Commission, and the Clean Hydrogen Partnership, the event served as a pivotal gathering for the hydrogen sector, fostering dialogue and showcasing innovations shaping the future of clean energy.

A Catalyst for Change

Hydrogen’s transformative potential was a recurring theme throughout the week. As renewable energy capacity expands rapidly, hydrogen is increasingly seen as a critical medium for energy storage and distribution, enabling the transition to cleaner, more resilient systems. Events like European Hydrogen Week equip stakeholders with the tools and partnerships necessary to position hydrogen as a cornerstone of global decarbonization efforts.

Apollo’s project manager, Emilie Dorgeville, highlighted the overwhelmingly positive reception at European Hydrogen Week:

“We’ve received a lot of congratulations and praise for Apollo’s pioneering approach, not just from stakeholders but from the wider community as well. The enthusiasm for our concept has been truly inspiring. Throughout the week, we had numerous inquiries and productive discussions, especially about building a robust ammonia value chain. It’s clear that Apollo is at the forefront of maritime decarbonization, and this recognition reinforces our belief in its transformative potential.”

Industry Presence and Engagement

Apollo’s partners, Equinor and Maritime CleanTech, each hosted stands at the exhibition, creating a vibrant hub for engagement with policymakers, maritime industry representatives, and research and development experts.

Adding to Apollo’s visibility, Dorgeville took the stage during the Enabling Green Maritime Operations side event, where the project’s potential sparked considerable interest.

“We experienced great enthusiasm for the Apollo concept, particularly its adaptability across a variety of vessel types,” Dorgeville said. “The Paris Agreement targets are within reach, but achieving them will require collaboration, innovation, and determination. Events like this reaffirm that hydrogen’s moment is not just on the horizon—it’s happening now.”

The Path Forward

Apollo’s presence at European Hydrogen Week underscored the growing momentum behind ammonia as a viable solution for maritime decarbonization. With key stakeholders expressing interest and new connections established, the project is well-positioned to continue shaping the hydrogen economy.

As the hydrogen sector advances, Apollo’s contributions exemplify the power of innovative partnerships in addressing climate challenges. European Hydrogen Week provided not only a platform for showcasing solutions but also a reminder of the critical role collaboration plays in unlocking hydrogen’s full potential for a sustainable future.
